Fambara is a shared calendar and to-do app for households. This page explains what information Fambara collects, why, and who it's shared with. It covers the Fambara iOS app and this website.
If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@fambara.com — we're a small team and read every message.
Information we collect
- Account & household information. When you sign in, we receive your email address and a unique account identifier from our identity provider. You're placed in a household (a group of people who share a calendar), either your own or one you were invited to join.
- Family member profiles. You can add profiles for people in your household — a display name and an avatar color or photo. This includes profiles for children, who don't sign in themselves; an adult in the household creates and manages their profile.
- Calendar and to-do content. Event titles, dates, times, locations, and notes; to-do titles, due dates, and notes. This is the core content of the app, created by you or another household member.
- Content you choose to share for parsing. If you share a flyer photo, an email, or a message with Fambara to turn into a calendar event or to-do, that content is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to extract the relevant details. We don't store the photo, email, or message itself after processing — only the extracted event/to-do, plus basic metadata (how many items were found, how confident the extraction was) for troubleshooting.
- Conversations with the AI assistant. If you use Fambara's chat assistant to add events, check your calendar, or message your household, we store that conversation so it can continue coherently, and so the assistant can act on your household's calendar and to-dos.
- Home address (optional). If you set a home address in Settings, we store it and use it two ways: as a hint to complete vague locations in shared content (e.g. "the usual field"), and to determine your household's timezone so reminders and daily digests arrive at the right local time.
- Calendar sync connections (optional). If you connect a Google, Microsoft, or Apple (iCloud) calendar, we store an encrypted access credential so we can sync events on your behalf. We never see your calendar provider's password — the connection is authorized through that provider's own sign-in flow.
- Push notification token. If you allow notifications, we store a device token (issued by Apple) so we can deliver reminders and household activity alerts through Apple's push notification service.
- Subscription status. If you subscribe to Fambara, payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card details — we only store your subscription status and the identifiers Apple provides to confirm it.
- Support & early-access emails. If you email us (including to request early access), we keep that email address and message so we can respond and, for early access, invite you in.
Information we don't collect
- We don't track your device's GPS location. Address search (for the optional home address) uses Apple Maps directly on your device — Fambara never receives your precise location.
- We don't read your device's existing Calendar or Reminders. Fambara can add events to your device calendar, but only writes to it — it never reads what's already there.
- We don't read your email inbox. Only content you explicitly share through the Share Extension is ever sent to us.
- We don't use advertising trackers, analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting services that share data with a third party. This website sets no tracking cookies.
- We don't sell your information, to anyone, ever.
How we use your information
We use the information above to operate Fambara: to show your household's calendar and to-dos, extract events from content you share, power the AI assistant, sync with calendar providers you connect, send reminders and digests, and respond when you contact us. We don't use your household's content to train AI models.
Who we share it with
We share information only as needed to run the service:
- Anthropic — processes content you share for parsing, and your messages to the AI assistant, to extract events/to-dos or generate a response. Anthropic's own privacy commitments govern how it handles API requests.
- Google, Microsoft, and Apple — if you connect a calendar from one of these providers, we exchange event data with it to keep your synced calendar up to date.
- Apple — delivers push notifications and processes App Store subscriptions on our behalf.
- Our email delivery provider — household invites, reminders, and daily digest emails are sent through a mail relay we operate, which in turn uses a reputable email delivery service to actually deliver the message.
- Our identity provider — a self-hosted sign-in system we run ourselves handles authentication; we don't use a third-party login service.
We don't share your information with data brokers or advertisers.
Children's information
Fambara lets a parent or guardian add profiles for their children so events and to-dos can be assigned to them. These profiles only ever contain a name and an avatar — children don't sign in, don't have their own account, and can't use Fambara independently of the adult household member managing it. Fambara is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information directly from a child.
Data retention
We keep your household's information for as long as your household exists, so the app keeps working the way you'd expect (your calendar doesn't disappear because no one opened the app for a while). Shared content sent for AI parsing is discarded right after processing, as described above.
You can delete your account directly in the app (Settings → Delete Account). This removes your login and everything only you can see — your profile, your calendar connections, your conversations with the AI assistant, your device's notification token. If you're part of a household with other people, shared events and to-dos stay for them; if you're the only member, the household and everything in it is deleted too. Deleting your account never touches your actual Google, Microsoft, or Apple calendar — only Fambara's own copy of things. An active subscription isn't automatically canceled, since Apple bills independently of your Fambara account; cancel it separately in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions if you want to stop being billed. You can also always email hello@fambara.com if you'd rather we handle it for you.
Data security
Calendar-provider credentials are stored encrypted, not in plain text. All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to production systems is limited to the people who operate Fambara.
Your choices
- You can disconnect a Google, Microsoft, or Apple calendar connection at any time in Settings.
- You're never required to share content for AI parsing — it's an explicit action you take (sharing a photo or email to Fambara), not something automatic.
- You can turn off push notifications in iOS Settings at any time.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account — see "Data retention" above for exactly what that does and doesn't remove.
- You can ask us what information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@fambara.com.
Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change to how Fambara handles your information, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above.
